Automotive production equipment relocation

The Challenge

Machine moving projects in the Automotive industry are often time critical – to ensure production on vehicle manufacturing lines is maintained.

The scope of this project involved moving several parts producing lines from UK factory to new locations in France, Germany and UK with emphasis on optimizing production time to fulfil contractual demands.

The project happened shortly after Brexit, which created extra emphasis around documentation to minimise unwanted delays with logistics.

The Solution

Following many site visits and meetings Flegg Projects were engaged by several parties including businesses from overseas. Most of the works happened in the UK, but we also arranged for teams to support with the installations in Germany and France.

In the UK our scope involved mechanical/electrical engineering support for machine dismantling and preparation, removal of the machines from the factory, loading and securing onto transport, transport to new locations including oversized freight. Flegg also provided an on-site project manager to co-ordinate the works and support the creation of documents required to generate export declarations.

Much of the works were done with our own in-house team/equipment. Partners supported with European logistics and engineering support in France/Germany.

The Result

We estimate a total of approx. 200 items were moved out of the existing factory over a period of 3 months. Items ranged from 1-25-tons and all arrived safely at their new home.

It was a complex project due to aligning with several parties involved, having a deadline to clear site, demand to maintain production lines and reacting to regular short notice alterations to the plan. Our project management team demonstrated a high-level of flexibility and commitment to ensure the works were completed safely and within the expectations of each stakeholder involved.
