Project Snapshot
Parties: Regular customer and receiving product-development company
Equipment: Large five-axis routing machine
Challenge: Receiving site was not ready for the scheduled shipment
Interim Storage: Secure storage at the Aylesbury warehouse for approximately 12 weeks
Delivery: Machines received over two days
Our Role: Cross-docking, secure storage, specialist transport, offloading and assembly support
The Challenge
In the machine moving industry, it is common for even the best-laid plans to require last-minute changes, creating logistical headaches. In this scenario, a regular customer approached us to provide installation support for a large 5-axis routing machine.
We quoted to provide lifting crew and equipment at the receiving site to offload the machine from transport, move it into the factory, and assist with assembly.
As the weeks counted down, it became clear that the receiving site would not be ready for the machine, and the manufacturer needed the machine shipped on time for their facility.
The Solution
Our customer had previously used our cross-docking service, so they put the receiving company in touch with Flegg, and a solution was proposed. This involved several trailers diverting to our Aylesbury warehouse. We provided lifting crew and equipment to offload the machines and move them into our secure storage, ahead of onward delivery to the site.
Additionally, Flegg provided specialist transport to move the machine from our warehouse to the receiving site in conjunction with the original scope for our customer – to offload, move it into the factory, and assist with the assembly.
The Flegg sales team worked with the customer and the receiving company to provide clear pricing and terms and to ensure all parties were aligned and regularly updated throughout the process.
All vehicles, crew, and lifting equipment required were supplied from our own in-house team and fleet. Our Landoll PT40 was supplied on-site to offload and assist with the assembly works.
