Programme: Three phases from November 2023 to April 2024
The Challenge
Flegg Projects, renowned for its precision in handling heavy equipment, undertook a challenging project for GCB Cocoa UK, a prominent cocoa/chocolate manufacturer establishing itself in the UK. The project involved the intricate transport, offloading, and installation of multiple chocolate holding tanks and equipment from multiple locations to the client’s facility in Sudbury, UK.
GCB Cocoa UK required the installation of several oversized chocolate holding tanks to expand their production capacity. The primary challenge was the transport and installation of these large tanks, from their supplier, which included multiple double-holding tanks, some with a capacity of ~30T and a diameter over 3 meters. Handling such large and sensitive equipment demanded meticulous planning and precision.
The Solution
The project was divided into three main phases, starting from the initial engagement in November 2023 until the final installation in April 2024.
Preparation and Planning:
- An initial site survey was conducted in January 2024 to assess the offloading area, holding areas, and installation routes within the building.
- Several online meetings were held to coordinate details and adjustments leading up to the first phase of the project.
- Risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) along with lift plans were meticulously prepared and submitted to ensure all safety and operational protocols were clearly defined and adhered to.
